| Hiring
the right entertainer for your wedding reception is probably the most important
decision for the successful outcome of your event! So how do you find the
right DJ? Some people view DJ's as a commodity and choose the cheapest one
they can find, not knowing there are differences to look for.
When interviewing DJ's, make sure you ask the following questions:
Do you provide a written agreement?
All Star DJ: Yes. It is very important to confirm your booking in writing.
Terms should be clearly defined to avoid any confusion or future problems.
Are you insured?
All Star DJ: Yes. Be confident that the DJ you hire will show up for
your affair! Insurance provides security & protection to you and
your guests, as well as the DJ and his expensive gear! Some reception
halls require DJ's to be insured. You should, too.
Do you have backup equipment and DJ's?
All Star DJ: Yes. Even professional audio equipment can fail on occasion,
don't let this put an early end to your affair. Make sure your DJ carries
backup equipment and that there is a substitute DJ available should
an emergency or case of illness occur.
Is your equipment of professional quality?
All Star DJ: Yes. There is a difference between home audio and professional
road-worthy equipment. The equipment a DJ uses should be built to go
on the road each and every day.
Will you listen to my music selections?
All Star DJ: Yes. Many DJ's are of the opinion that they know what
music is best for their audience and won't take requests. Your DJ should
listen to requests and play them whenever appropriate.
Where do you get your music?
All Star DJ: Yes, we use authentic recordings. Several DJ companies
have been shut down or sued for obtaining music illegally over the internet
or for recording their own copies.
Is the person knowledgeable about your type of
event?
All Star DJ: Yes. There are all kinds of DJ's: club DJ's, wedding DJ's,
rave DJ's
the list is endless!! Can your DJ service handle your
wedding reception? Ask the DJ how many events of your type that he/she
has done.
Will you dress appropriately at my affair?
All Star DJ: Yes. It is important that your entertainer look the part
by dressing formal or semi-formal, according to your preference. Themed
events and picnics require different attire.
Will you play the music at appropriate levels?
All Star DJ: Yes. The biggest concern voiced by prospective clients
is the volume level of the music. A professional DJ knows to keep the
volume at a level appropriate for the guests, especially during cocktails
and the dinner hour.
Do you do more than just play music at the reception?
All Star DJ: Yes. Most wedding receptions involve more than playing
music. It is important to have a DJ who can handle all the announcements,
help coordinate the affair, and create a fun atmosphere with the music
they play.
Will you listen to my concerns and input?
All Star DJ: Yes. A professional DJ is aware that they can't possibly
know every aspect of music and entertainment-and your ideas. Your input
and suggestions should be welcome!
Will you offer to meet with me AFTER signing the
contract to plan my event?
All Star DJ: Yes. A professional DJ is ALWAYS willing to discuss your
event before the event starts, and should display the flexibility to
accommodate changes and help you solve problems. Meeting with your DJ
to plan your event is of paramount importance to a successful wedding
reception.
It is important to find a DJ company that says yes to the above questions.
Professionalism, experience & quality are the most important factors
in hiring your entertainment. You will never be sorry when you invest
in quality.
